In Session News
Earlier this year Kurt Vile came to the studio to track his new album "Smoke Ring For My Halo." John Agnello produced and engineered the recordings with Ted Young assisting.
The Magic Shop welcomed Moby and legendary engineer Ken Thomas to the studio to mix his new album "Destroyed." Ted Young assisted on the session.
The Smith Westerns came to the studio with producer Chris Coady this fall to do some tracking for their new cd "Dye it Blonde." Brian Thorn engineered on the date.
Brian Thorn and Steve Rosenthal mixed "Looks Like Rain" from the original multi-tracks for the upcoming Mickey Newbury Box Set "An American Trilogy" on Drag City Records in the US and Cargo Records in Europe.
This year restoration engineers Kabir Hermon and Steve Rosenthal completed a set of analog to digital transfers of The Phil Spector catalogue for Sony/Legacy Records. The first four CD's mastered by Vic Anesini were released this spring by Legacy producer Rob Santos.

Blue Room Mastering engineer Warren Russell-Smith has been refurbishing his room and staying very busy mastering records for:

This spring, Warren continued his work mastering and restoring the 1970's Newport Jazz Festival, as well as The New Orleans Jazz Festival of 1976 for Wolfgang's Vault.
Red Room News:
Red Room Mastering engineer Jessica Thompson and Steve Rosenthal restored and mastered four cd's for the Mickey Newbury Box Set "An American Trilogy". "Looks Like Rain", "Frisco Mabel Joy" and "Heaven Help The Child" plus a fourth Cd of Bonus Tracks for Drag City Records in the U.S. and Cargo Records in Europe. Chris Campion is the producer.
Jessica also continued working on concerts from the Newport Jazz and Folk Festival archive for Wolfgang's Vault.

The 2011 Grammy Awards

Congratulations to Arcade Fire for winning the 2011 Grammy Award for Album of The Year!
The band tracked with producer Markus Dravs at the Magic Shop in the fall of 2009.
Congratulations are also in order to Train for winning the Grammy for Best Pop Performance By a Duo or Group With Vocals
for "Hey Soul Sister" from their iTunes Exclusive. This award makes history for being the first iTunes original content to earn
a Grammy. The session was recorded and mixed at The Magic Shop by Brian Thorn with Thuy-An Julien of iTunes producing.
It was mastered by Jessica Thompson in the Magic Shop's Red Room.

In Session News
This fall, The Magic Shop welcomed Moby and legendary engineer Ken Thomas to the studio to mix his new album. Ted Young assisted on the session.
In November, M Ward came to the studio to track his new album. Tom Schick engineered the recordings with Brian Thorn assisting.
The Smith Westerns came to the studio with Engineer Chris Coady this fall to do some tracking and mixing. Brian Thorn assisted on the date.
Earlier this year producer Jim Abbiss and engineer brought The Kooks to track at the studio. Brian Thorn assisted on the project.
Lenny Kravitz came to the studio this fall to track for his upcoming cd, T-Bone Edmond engineered with Ted Young assisting.
Singer-songwriter Melody Kills mixed her new cd here this fall with Steve McEwan producing and Kabir Hermon engineering.
Our good friend and producer Jimi Zhivago came to mix the new Jenna Nicholls cd. Brian Thorn was the engineer.
Rock legend Alice Cooper and producer Bob Ezrin stopped by to track for a couple of days.Ted Young assisted on the session.
Blue Room News:
Congratulations to Warren Russell-Smith and Magic Shop owner Steve Rosenthal for their Best Historical Grammy Award nominated mastering work on the Alan Lomax in Haiti 10 CD box Set!
This season in the Blue Room, staff engineer Warren Russell-Smith continued audio restoration work for HBO's Boardwalk Empire.
Warren mastered Cd's for Melody Kills, On The Brink Recordings, Oh Whitney, Glass Rifle and These People. He also worked on mastering Rockstar Games' - Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmares Original Soundtrack and Analog to digital transfers for The Golf Channel Recordings dance label.
This fall, Warren continued his work mastering and restoration of the 1973 Newport Jazz Festival.

Engineer Jessica Thompson mastered cd's for: Ryat "Avant Gold" - electronic and experimental artist from Philadelphia, Jenna Nicholls "In The Blooming Hours" - produced by Jimi Zhivago, The Nowherenauts "Delightfully Distracted" - produced by Kevin March, Mitten - debut EP by electronic duo John Holk and the Sequins "If You See Her", Detroit country psych band.
Jessica also continued working on concerts from the Newport Jazz and Folk Festival archive.
