SHOP RECORDING STUDIO ANNOUNCES THE ADDITION OF A - FULL-FEATURED DIGITAL
AUDIO/VISUAL MIXING SUITE, “THE RED ROOM”
The music for Abel Ferrara’s film Chelsea on the Rocks which
had its debut at the Cannes Film Festival May 21, 2008 was mixed in
The Red
Room at The Magic Shop.
New York, NY, May 15, 2008 – The Magic Shop Recording Studio, a
leading New York recording facility, announces the opening of its new
audio/visual mixing suite, The Red Room. Starting its 20th year, The
Magic Shop Studio features Studio A with its oversized live and control
room along with The Blue Room, a complete audio restoration suite. This
month, Magic Shop owner Steve Rosenthal launches The Red Room, with producer
/ engineer Elliot Mazer. The Red Room is a state of the art facility
with the capability of mixing audio to picture. The first completed film
project at the studio was the music mix by Elliot Mazer of Abel Ferrara’s
documentary Chelsea on the Rocks Mazer also completed mixing blues artist
Jake Walker’s album Confidence Man and Soulfège Do Right
in The Red Room for his Left Turn Music imprint.
The Magic Shop owner Steve Rosenthal said, “ I am thrilled to
have Elliot join the Magic Shop family. His legendary ears and technical
savvy
are a great addition to the studio.” Mazer is excited to be part
of the Magic Shop and adds, “I’ve
admired Steve for many years and greatly enjoy his recordings. The
Red Room is a custom-built room with amazing acoustics. It is a pleasure
working there.”
Red Room Capabilities. The room has a 7.1 monitoring system. It is
being used to mix stereo and surround music, TV shows, commercials
and film.
The room is outfitted
for audio restoration and archiving.

Red Room Booking
The Red Room at the Magic Shop opened for bookings May 1, 2008. The
rate includes use of all Magic Shop equipment. Also included in
the rate is
an experienced house-staff assistant engineer and client services
engineer and producer referrals. Additional equipment rentals,
hotel and catering
services can be ordered, prices on request. All interested parties

Studio Backgrounder
Based in the SOHO neighborhood of New York, The Magic Shop was
founded in 1988 by three-time Grammy award winning engineer and
producer
Steve Rosenthal. His three room facility includes the Studio
A, the Blue
Room and the Red Room. Magic Shops’ Studio A includes a live sound recording
room and mixing. Studio A prides itself on its legendary custom wrap-around
56 input Neve 80 Series console with flying faders automation. Studio
A clients include, Coldplay, Sonic Youth, The Hold Steady, and Interpol.
Magic Shop also houses the Blue Room, which offers audio preservation
and restoration services. The Blue Room and its engineers Steve Rosenthal
and Warren Russell-Smith are responsible for the restoration work on “The
Live Wire, Woody Guthrie” which won them a Grammy in 2007 for best
Historical Album. Clients in the Blue Room include work on releases by
John Phillips, The Rolling Stones, and Sam Cooke. May 2008, Magic Shop
announces in collaboration with Elliot Mazer, the Red Room.
Elliot Mazer - Music Producer, Executive, Technologist
Mazer produced multi-platinum albums by such artists as Neil
Young, Janis Joplin, Linda Ronstadt and The Band. He re-mixed
Neil Young’s HARVEST
album (produced by Mazer in 1971) in DVD Surround and has worked on projects
with artists such as Frank Sinatra, Santana, The Who, P!NK and Switchfoot.
Mazer was also a consultant for Apple Computer, where in the mid-eighties
he defined the acoustical standard for Macintosh – so innovative
at the time that it is still in use today. As a consultant for CBS Records,
Mazer originated the Jazz Masterpiece series for Columbia Records. He
was President of Artificial Intelligence Resources, Inc where he developed
and patented the AirCheck monitoring system. Mazer has also designed,
built and managed audio recording studios. CCRMA at Stanford University
houses a studio Mazer help design in the early 80s.
He is Co-Chairman of Left Turn Music, a new and innovative
music company that is helping to strengthen the bond between
artists
and fans.
Mazer is a member of the Audio Engineering Society, British
Academy of Film and Television Artists, and National Academy
of Recording
Arts & Sciences.
He earned a B.A. from Fairleigh Dickinson University and is a member
of the Audio Board, Consumer Electronics Association. He is a board member
of GenAudio, Inc, an innovative company that has developed 4D audio solutions.
